LoLa 38, People’s Emergency Center's creative placemaking initiative, is partnering with the Penn Museum to deepen meaningful connections with between the museum and neighboring West Philadelphia communities. We hope this initiative will broaden access to the Museum’s collections and programs around archaeology and anthropology, taking steps to increase social equity at one of Philadelphia’s top cultural attractions, while strengthening a sense of belonging for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
Residents of the Belmont, Mantua, Mill Creek, Saunders Park, and West Powelton neighborhoods should register for each specific program of their interest with zoeevans@upenn.edu in order to receive full benefits.

Digital Daily Dig
The Penn Museum is home to remarkable objects and their powerful stories. While the Museum is temporarily closed due to COVID-19, we remain open for exploration—and we’ve taken our Daily Digs online. Together, we’ll dig into a 3-minute exploration of an extraordinary artifact. Gain deeper insights into its history, cultural context, caretaking, and more while you hear the unique perspectives of archaeologists, anthropologists, scientists, conservators, archivists, and other Museum specialists.

Living Room Lectures: New Video Every Week!
Thirsty for knowledge? Enjoy happy hour with one of our Museum’s awesome specialists, from your own home. Living Room Lectures deliver social interaction with educational elements, and everyone is welcome. We will be sharing recordings of these live-stream videos through Penn Museum At Home. The newest Living Room Lecture video will be uploaded within a few days of the live-stream.
Culture Film Series: Sundays at 2pm!
Celebrating our 10th year, the 2020–21 Culture Films Series will focus on the theme “Syncretism,” the combining of cultural elements. In collaboration with the Wolf Humanities Center’s annual topic, “Choice,” we will showcase films that bring this concept of active selection, adaptation, or rejection of beliefs or practices to light. Sunday film screenings begin at 2pm ET and are one-time events, with a Q&A discussion with the director, producer, or cultural expert to follow. The full schedule can be found here.

Explore the secrets of the Penn Museum from your own home—or lawn chair! You control the journey by voting on activities with your fellow explorers. Tour ancient Egypt without breaking a sweat, or journey through Mesopotamian cities without aching feet. These virtual tours are highly interactive, with built-in polls and quizzes to keep you guessing until the very end. The full schedule can be found here.

Between the Lines
The Penn Museum invites you to unlock the human experience through literature by reading “between the lines.” Join us for our twist on the classic book club, featuring carefully curated books with cultural connections, moderated by Penn Museum curators and special guests. A new book will be featured each month, from June through December. View the Fall reading list here.

Calling all competitive pairs! This special adults-only edition of the Penn Museum’s Game Night is designed for adults in teams of two! BYO drink and virtual game face as you interact with other dynamic duos through fun chats, polls, and quizzes about ancient Egypt! This intimate digital tour of our world-renowned Egypt Galleries makes the perfect virtual escape whether you’re on date night or just looking to some culture and competition to your Thursday evening. Great Lecture Series (2020-2021 Theme, Great Monuments)
Monuments have been constructed throughout history—but why, how, and to what end? Join acclaimed Penn faculty and invited special guests during the 2020–2021 season of our acclaimed lecture series as they examine the definition of a monument, what monuments of the past mean to the world today, whether they hold deeper or changed significance than when they were first created, if their purposes have shifted over time, and many more questions. Lecture topics range from ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Rome, all the to contemporary themes and monuments. View the full speaker and topic list here.
Global Art Scout Badge
What makes something a piece of art? Complete a series of five activities that focus on different types of art from around the globe. Learn about cave paintings, painted scrolls, and art that tells stories. Make your own paper beads and explore the importance of decorative art.
