Education begins at birth

We are putting West Philly kids first! This early childhood education quality and awareness collaboration is a partnership among Drexel University, First Up, and People's Emergency Center.  Join us, and make sure that your child is ready for success. AFEL programs are for families with children under the age of eight living in the 19104 zip code.

New! Growing a Reading Champion!

Action for Early Learning is bringing you early literacy in a way that fits your family!
Join us for:
  • Practical, research-based strategies to support your child's reading in the home and neighborhood
  • Trauma-informed ways to check in on your family's well-being
  • Get creative with other parents and caregivers.
Contact: mtsuei@pec-cares.org to learn more.

Raising your grandchildren? Come to Grandparents' Coffee Talk!

Are you a grandparent of children who are between 0-8 years old living in 19104? The goal of this group is to come together with other West Philly grandparents and empower one another! You are your grandchildren’s BEST first teacher!

In person events 11am-1pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 35th Street & Haverford on April 14, May 11, and June 16.

Contact: Kelly Thomas, actionece@pec-cares.org

Free! Books to Go!

Take your family out for a walk and look for the bright orange Sidewalk Libraries. AFEL and our great partners like @readingrecycled and @readby4th are working to help families create vibrant and culturally-relevant home libraries in West Philadelphia. Education begins at home!
