Founded in 1972, People's Emergency Center is the oldest provider of emergency shelter and supportive services to homeless women and children in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Services include emergency food, clothing and shelter; transitional housing; case management and counseling; parenting and life skills; child care; teen education and recreation; welfare-to-work preparation and job placement assistance; and permanent housing opportunities.
Available Positions:
JOBS Program Manager
Responsible for ensuring the quality and appropriateness of welfare-to-work services for program participants relative to changing public policies and trends. Must have experience working with low-income adults and the ability to work with a diverse population. This professional must be well-organized, have the ability to prioritize critical tasks/responsibilities and be a problem solver. Must be able to lead a team: previous supervisory experience is required, preferably in the welfare to work arena. The JOBS program manager works closely with the V. P. of Social Services to ensure the delivery of quality program services that meet the needs of the program participants.
Bachelors Degree or equivalent work-related experience is required. MA or MSW degree is preferred. Four years experience in social services delivery/case management/advocacy required. Five years previous experience in Welfare to Work or Workforce Development is highly preferred.

SCI-West Social Marketing and Development AmeriCorps* VISTA Member
Sustainable Communities Initiatives-West (SCI-West) is seeking a marketing and development specialist to increase community access to local employment and internship opportunities, neighborhood news, small businesses connections and civic events.
Sustainable communities are good places to live, do business, work, and raise families. SCI-West seeks to improve whole communities in West Philadelphia by making them healthier, more competitive, and better connected with the economic mainstream. SCI-West works to achieve these goals through a comprehensive plan for neighborhood change driven by community-based organizations already achieving success in the area. SCI-West is an alliance of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation and four partner organizations: People's Emergency Center, the Partnership CDC, University City District, and the Enterprise Center CDC.
Responsibilities/Duties
The social marketing and development member will be responsible for maintaining an online education resource/database that will make vital information available to the West Philadelphia community, including: job postings, workshops, news, and workforce development opportunities. He/she will manage SCI-West’s community blog, develop promotional flyers about programs and events offered by the agency, and produce a monthly e-newsletter. The education resource/online database will aid those hardest hit by the economy by providing an efficient one-stop-shop and crucial resources for working and unemployed families.
Skill Requirements
The social marketing and development member should be a skilled writer with blogging, design and marketing and social networking experience. Previous experience working with community organizations is preferred. Background in art/design, an interest in working with the low-income community, working knowledge of design programs and new technology, a bachelor’s degree, organizational skills, and ability to network with community members, clients, and program partners. The successful candidate will work directly with the director of SCI-West and the four community development corporations that make up SCI-West.

Residential Staff
Due to a bona fide occupational qualification, this position is open to female candidates only. Specific requirements for this position are: must be able to remain on the job for an entire 24 hours (18.25 work hours, 5.75 sleep hours) and must be available to work two days per week (one weekday and one weekend day). There are no exceptions to the above requirements.
At the onset of employment, residential staff works closely with the kitchen coordinator to assist with meal preparation, serving clients, delegation of kitchen chores to clients, and overall upkeep of the kitchen and dinning area. Ultimately, additional responsibilities include; monitoring of daily activities of clients; maintaining the safety of clients that reside in the shelter and transitional housing and management of front-office and building security. Qualified candidate must be committed to providing services to a diverse population of women and children. Must have the ability to communicate with both women and children.
A High School Diploma or GED is required. Previous work experience with a human services organization is preferred. This is a full-time position.

Administrative Assistant
We are currently seeking a part-time (30 hours/week) administrative assistant for our property management department. Must have prior experience with LIHTC, HUD, PHFA and PHA/RDA rules and regulations. PHFA-TIC and RDA-HOMES recertification experience is a plus. The qualified candidate must be familiar with maintenance service requests. Must also be very comfortable working with a diverse population.
This position provides administrative support to the operations manager. The candidate must be detail oriented, possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Microsoft Office experience is a must. High School diploma or GED is required. Benefits are available for this part-time position.
