PHILADELPHIA– Citizens Bank announced today it is donating more than 2,000 “Stockings of Love” to assist homeless individuals and low-income families living in temporary shelters and transitional housing. The stockings are filled with personal items, particularly toiletries, hats and gloves that were donated by Citizens Bank employees. The stockings are being distributed to homeless shelters and service agencies throughout greater Philadelphia this week.
“We know this is a tough holiday for many people and our Stockings of Love program helps bring warmth and good cheer to members of our community who are most in need,” said
Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, Citizens Bank’s President and CEO for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. “Citizens Bank colleagues are a caring group who like to make an impact year round, and Stockings of Love is one of our signature efforts.”
As part of the donation, bank employees today delivered 400 stockings to People’s Emergency Center, a comprehensive housing and service center for homeless mothers and children operating in West Philadelphia. The stockings delivered today are filled with items that are appropriate for a woman, boy or girl.
“As always, we thank Citizens Bank and its employees for its generosity during the holiday season,” said Farah Jimenez, President & CEO of People’s Emergency Center. “The holidays can be a difficult time of year, so the help we get from Citizens Bank is crucial.”
Over the years, Citizens Bank’s Stockings of Love program has delivered items to thousands of homeless people in temporary shelters. The red mesh stockings are filled with items such as scarves, knit hats, gloves and socks, and trial-size toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream, deodorant, shampoo, combs, brushes, barrettes, washcloths and soap. Shelters have indicated that these are the most frequently needed items.
“Citizens Bank is proud to help better our community, and about this time of year, our colleagues truly feel the spirit of the season. We relish the opportunity to help make the holidays a better time for the less fortunate,” Fitzpatrick said.
In addition to today’s donation to People’s Emergency Center, Citizens Bank volunteers will deliver more than 4,000 Stockings of Love to numerous non-profit organizations throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
