PEC Names Building after Prior PEC President
PEC Media Advisory: Renovations from People’s Emergency Center Leave Urban Spaces Enhanced

Wednesday, October 13, 2010 --- Philadelphia, PA People’s Emergency Center (PEC) has recently completed eight months of renovations on their main facility located at 3902 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA. In the late nineteen eighties, under the leadership of Gloria Guard, PEC transformed the abandoned warehouse at this location into residences and programs for homeless women and children, and for the first time combined emergency, transitional, and permanent housing in one building.

In honor of the dedicated, compassionate service of PEC’s former president of 27 years, the remodeled facility was named “Gloria’s Place,” on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at an event featuring three elected officials as guest speakers. This week’s naming ceremony includes speeches from Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, Councilman Bill Greenlee, and State Representative Vanessa Lowry Brown.

PEC supporters also came out to applaud the completion of the renovation and the announcement of the new name: David Fryman, current PEC Board Chair, Craig Snyder, former PEC Board Member, Mark Schwartz, Executive Director of development partner Regional Housing Legal Services, and Richard Barnhart, CEO of Pennrose, another development partner. The renovations were designed by Cecil Baker+ Partners and the construction on the first and second floors was completed by Simiano Construction. The project was overseen by Sherick Project Management.
