The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc. (JLP) has awarded grants totaling $135,000 to five non-profit community organizations, including People's Emergency Center (PEC). The $20,000 grant awarded to PEC will support reinstituting the Eating Well Cooking Workshops. The program consists of six weeks of classes that teach adults healthy cooking with the goals of experiencing the connection between healthy eating and healthy living.
The JLP Board of Directors invited nonprofit organizations working to improve food securtiy and health in the Greater Philadelphia area to apply for Centennial Grants. More than 35 organizations requested a total of more than $1.3 million in funding. Grant funds were raised through donations to the JLP's Centennial Capital Campaign, in celebration of 100 years of the Junior League of Philadelphia.
Other grant recipients included Face-to-Gace, Methodist Services' Heritage Farms, Community Center at Visitation, and MANNA.
