Nurturing Families

PEC supports families experiencing homelessness with the housing and resources required to rebuild responsible, hopeful, independent lives.  We are committed to nourishing our families through the provisions of early childhood learning and after-school enrichment; healthcare; and onsite family therapy to help heal from recent and childhood incidents of trauma. We have found that our families participate more consistently in these sessions when they can access them in the safe space of PEC.

For single mothers experiencing homelessness with their young children, PEC provides the social services they need to improve their physical well-being, emotional security, and economic stability.  While each family is different, contributing to their circumstances may be:

  • Childhood abuse
  • Domestic violence
  • Intergenerational poverty
  • Missed educational opportunities
  • Lack of access to employment services and opportunities
  • Addiction
  • Or untreated medical and mental health issues

PEC offers a holistic and individualized approach to addressing barriers to success for mothers residing with us.  Our continuum of care includes the following services:

  • Case management
  • Benefits access
  • Parenting and early childhood eduction
  • Lifeskills training on several topics, including conflict resolution
  • Employment services
  • Financial literacy
  • Computer classes
  • Criminal record expungement
  • On-site counseling services

For children living in our emergency, transitional or permanent housing we offer a wide range of educational, recreational and family events and activities in a variety of our programs, including the afterschool program and summer camp.
