PECCDC works to enhance the appearance of the Lancaster Avenue commercial corridor through streetscape improvements. Our partnership with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Mural Arts Program dramatically enhanced Lancaster Avenue in 2006 with four murals and eight mosaic tree pits, made possible through the generous support of Bank of America and the William Penn Foundation. We are working with Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell and her office to further streetscape improvements with new sidewalks, street lighting, trees, and street furniture.
Through our commercial façade improvement program, we have helped 11 Lancaster Avenue businesses make improvements to their storefronts.
As a first step in the 40th and Lancaster Gateway Improvement Project, PECCDC partnered with the owners of Hoagie City to remove a large billboard from their building. Removing the billboard from this historic former bank -The West Philadelphia Title & Trust Company - revealed unique architectural features that have been hidden for years which greatly enhance the gateway.
We have partnered with the Enterprise Center Retail Resource Network and the Drexel School of Design and Merchandizing to redesign the storefront window displays for businesses along Lancaster Avenue.
