Your help needed to get children ready for school
Event Date: August 20, 2010

School bells will soon be ringing again for the 2010-2011 school year and we at People’s Emergency Center (PEC) need your help. As a nationally recognized program, we provide emergency housing and comprehensive services to up to 200 families experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia every year. Because these families turn to us in moments of crisis, they are generally unable to provide basic needs for their children, including school supplies and school uniforms.

All students enrolled in City of Philadelphia public schools are required to wear school uniforms, but the costs of purchasing uniforms and supplies can easily reach $250 per child, well beyond the budgets of the families we serve. We’re deeply committed to the needs of these students and our goal is to provide every child in our care with two school uniforms and basic supplies such as:
Composition Notebooks (Marble)
Loose-leaf paper
Dictionaries & Thesauruses
Poster Boards & Book Covers
Tissues & Hand Sanitizer
Calculators (Including scientific)
Alarm clocks
3 Ring Binders and Folders (Pocket & Prong)
Pencils, Pens & Sharpeners
Rain Gear
Your gift of $200 will help us to purchase two uniforms, shoes, a gym outfit, and school supplies for a child or teen at PEC. Gifts of any size will help us to fill the needs of new children who come to PEC throughout the school year. The more you give, the more children can start the school year with everything they need to succeed.
If you choose to, you can donate supplies that we will distribute to the children and teens living at PEC, although we have extremely limited storage space this year due to ongoing renovations in one of our buildings. We will begin collecting school supplies and donations for uniforms starting on August 20, 2010. All items should be delivered to 325 N 39th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
